LINGUISTIC DIMENSION OF THE ARTISTIC TEXT IN THE POETIC WORK OF Y. GOETHE (BASED ON BALLADS “ERLKÖNIG” AND “DER FISCHER”)
Abstract
The article is devoted to a comprehensive linguistic analysis of the artistic text of two of the most famous ballads by Y. W. Goethe — “Erlkönig” and “Der Fischer”. The presented intelligence is an attempt to analyze the writer’s poetic texts, where the linguistic organization acts as a mechanism for the formation of imagery and emotional tension. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the strengthening of the interest of modern linguistics in the analysis of the artistic text as a multi-level semiotic system. The purpose of the research: to identify and systematize the main linguistic means that form a poetic picture of the artist’s world, to determine the functional and stylistic dominants of his ballad discourse, as well as to find out the semantic, syntactic and phonostylistic mechanisms of influence on the recipient. The object of attention is the artistic text of the mentioned ballads as a linguistic-aesthetic system, the subject is that linguistic means of expressing ideological and figurative content and their stylistic functioning. The original texts of the ballads in German serve as the research material. The methodological basis is the principles of linguistic stylistic analysis, methods of semantic and contextual interpretation, elements of a cognitive-discursive approach, comparative method. In the course of the analysis, it was found that the leading linguistic stylistic means in both ballads are sound symbolism, anaphoric and epiphoric repetitions, interrogative constructions as markers of dialogue, symbolic imagery of natural elements (water, wind, night, fog), as well as the semantic collision of rational and irrational discourses. It was revealed that Goethe skillfully combines the folk poetic tradition with the classical artistic canon, which finds expression in the transparency of the vocabulary, the rhythmic perfection of the poem and the semantic ambiguity of the images. We see the prospect of research in the application of corpus linguistics methods for the statistical study of the vocabulary of Goethe’s ballads.
