Abstract

The increasing integration of digital technologies in education has highlighted the need for innovative instructional strategies that enhance students' engagement and academic achievement. Although infographics have emerged as an effective visual learning tool for simplifying complex information, empirical evidence regarding their effectiveness in Commerce education, particularly in Business Studies at the higher secondary level, remains limited. The present study examined the effectiveness of infographics in enhancing the academic achievement of higher secondary school students in Business Studies. A quasi-experimental control group pretest post-test design was adopted. The sample consisted of 80 Grade XII Commerce students from two higher secondary schools in Alappuzha District Among 80 students,40 students were selected randomly to form experimental group and 40 students were randomly selected to form control group. The experimental group received instruction through a researcher-developed infographic-based instructional package, while the control group was taught using the prevailing activity method. Students' achievement was measured using a standardized achievement test administered before and after the intervention. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and inferential techniques, including independent samples t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in the achievement scores of students exposed to infographic-based instruction compared with those taught through the conventional method (t = 10.87, p < .01; ANCOVA F = 111.67, p < .01). The findings demonstrate that infographic-based instruction is an effective pedagogical approach for enhancing students' understanding and achievement in Business Studies. The study underscores the value of integrating visual learning strategies into Commerce education and recommends the inclusion of infographic-based instructional practices in classroom teaching to promote meaningful learning and improve academic outcomes.
