Abstract

This study was prompted by the emergence of controversy and negative public stigma surrounding the Sekolah Rakyat (SR) program initiated by the President of Indonesia. Through the TikTok account @Kementerian Sosial RI, the government published the narrative content “Nazril’s Story at Sekolah Rakyat” employing an emotive strategy to build the program’s image and legitimacy amid existing social dynamics. The research focused on discovering the use of comparative stylistic elements within the narrative content, analyzing their emotive functions, and examining their role in narrative construction. The research implemented a descriptively oriented qualitative method using content analysis techniques derived from the stylistic theory of Gorys Keraf and the emotive function theory introduced by Roman Jakobson. The research identified the use of figurative language, specifically personification (two instances), metaphor (three instances), and hyperbole (one instance). Personification depicted the character’s confusion, overwhelm, and struggle amidst silence. Metaphors serve to convey a sense of psychological burden, warmth, and optimism. Meanwhile, hyperbole embodies emotional satisfaction and pride in success. Constructively, these stylistic devices play a crucial role in explaining the main obstacles, emphasizing internal conflict, marking the story’s turning point, and the resolution that transforms the burden into a source of strength for the character.
