Abstract

Purpose Most existing studies adopt traditional regression models to examine either psychological capital or social‑emotional competence in isolation. Few integrate these two sets of multi‑dimensional positive psychological resources within a unified network framework, hindering the exploration of their complex patterns of covariation. This study therefore aimed to identify core and bridge nodes of psychological capital and social‑emotional competence among medical students using network analysis, so as to provide potential targets for positive‑psychological interventions. Methods A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted among 1,217 undergraduate medical students. After adjusting for confounding factors, a regularized partial correlation network was constructed. Strength centrality and bridge strength were calculated, and network robustness tests were performed. Results 1. The various psychological dimensions were closely interrelated, and the network stability met the criteria. 2. Self-efficacy exhibited the highest strength centrality and served as the network’s core. 3. Self-relationship exhibited the highest bridge strength, serving as a core mediating node between the two systems. Hope, responsible decision-making, and group relationships also exerted significant influence. Conclusion Close concurrent covariation exists between the two positive-psychological systems of psychological capital and social-emotional competence among medical students Targeted interventions focused on core variables such as self-efficacy and self-relationship competence can effectively improve medical students’ psychological well-being and optimize programs for cultivating the psychological qualities of medical professionals.
