Cognitive and discursive perspectives of grammatical neologization

Abstract

The article examines the vectors of grammatical neologization of the modern Russian literary language within the framework of the communicative-cognitive approach, based on the material of journalistic texts of the mass media and data from the Russian National Corpus. The mechanisms of neosememe generation and their structural and grammatical consequences at the intersection of lexical and grammatical subsystems are considered. Based on the analysis of the processes of repeated substantivation, gradual transition of relative adjectives into qualitative ones, transitivization/intransitivization of verb vocabulary, as well as transformations of abstract, concrete and collective nouns, a large-scale zone of lexico-grammatical syncretism is explicated. It is proved that the discursive conditions of modern media systems and pragmatic factors (including the law of speech economy) act as a key driver of the restructuring of morphological categories and syntactic valencies of words.
