Influence of Technology on Labor Market: A Systematic Review

Sep 2026 · International Journal for Research in Applied Science and Engineering Technology · 0 citations

Abstract

Technological advancement has become a central force shaping the structure and dynamics of modern labor markets. This study investigates how emerging technologies—including automation, artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and advanced communication systems—influence labor demand, skill requirements, and employment patterns across industries. Using empirical evidence, theoretical frameworks, and comparative case analyses, the research identifies three primary mechanisms through which technology affects labor markets: the displacement of routine tasks, productivity-enhancing complementarities that generate new forms of work, and the expansion of platform-based and remote employment arrangements. Results suggest that although technology can contribute to job polarization and wage inequality, it simultaneously fosters opportunities for skill development, innovation, and flexible labor participation. The findings underscore that the overall impact of technology on labor markets is mediated by institutional factors such as education, labor regulations, and social protection systems. Implications for policy emphasize the need for adaptive strategies that promote inclusive growth and mitigate adverse disruptions associated with technological change.
