Abstract

The regulated frequency in Micro Grid (MG) powered by Renewable Energy Sources (RES) raises some concerns because of the low inertia of the MG. The Virtual Inertia Control (VIC) is the concept of using an Energy Storage System (ESS) to enhance the inertia of an MG. The research proposes an Improved Sine Cosine Hyperbolic Algorithm (I-SCHA) based VIC for the low inertia MG with RES (IRES). In this research, initially, the implementation of PID controllers is taken place and the controller realization would be done based on SCHA and I-SCHA algorithm. The second step of the methodology evaluates the I-SCHA algorithm to provide a good tuning for FOPID controllers for frequency regulation in micro grid using virtual inertia control system. While operating under constant load, the comparison of I-SCHA and SCHA shows that the latter reduces the value of the objective function by 9.57% when using wind and solar energy. ISE value is reduced under I-SCHA tuned FOPID controlled VIC and SCHA tuned PID controlled VIC systems by 22.39% and 29.82% respectively. While analyzing variable load and using wind and solar power, the ISE value diminishes by 10.08% and 19.58% with I-SCHA tuned FOPID controlled VIC system during comparison.
