Web-Based Inventory Management System for Building Supply Store Using Rapid Application Development
Abstract
Usaha Jaya is a building supplies store whose operational data, including inventory, purchases, sales, credit, and payroll, is still recorded manually on paper. This practice causes several problems, including stock data that is not updated in real time, a higher risk of recording errors, inaccurate financial reports, and poorly organized customer credit and employee payroll management. These issues highlight the need for a web-based inventory management system capable of digitizing Usaha Jaya's operational processes. Unlike existing inventory applications, which generally only address one operational area, the system developed in this study integrates inventory management, purchase and sales transactions, returns, customer credit, and employee payroll in a single platform, built using the Laravel framework and a MySQL database. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) method was applied because it allows users to directly participate in each design iteration, helping to ensure that the resulting system reflects actual operational needs. Key features include product data management, purchase and sales transaction processing, returns handling, and report generation through visualization, graphs, and data export. The system was evaluated using black-box testing on five test scenarios covering its core transactions, all of which produced expected results. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) was then conducted using a 10-question instrument involving two respondents, a store owner and an admin, with both responding to all tested scenarios. The findings indicated that the system performed well for the evaluated scenarios and was well-received by both users.
