Abstract

This study was motivated by problems identified at MTsS MUS V Suku Canduang Agam, where some students had not yet fully realized the importance of discipline in participating in various school activities, as reflected in several violations of the established school regulations. This condition indicated that the formation of students' religious character still required more serious attention, and one of the factors assumed to influence it was the learning environment. This study aimed to determine the magnitude of the influence of the learning environment on the formation of students' religious character, particularly on the elements of tolerance and discipline, at MTsS MUS V Suku Canduang Agam. The study used a quantitative method with a correlational research design. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and documentation involving all 23 seventh-grade students using a total sampling technique, then analyzed through normality tests, linearity tests, and statistical hypothesis testing with SPSS version 26. The results showed that the Shapiro-Wilk normality test obtained significance values of 0.217 and 0.580 (normally distributed), the linearity test obtained a significance value of 0.000 (linear), and the hypothesis test obtained a correlation coefficient of 0.985, which falls within the 0.80–1.00 interval, indicating a very strong relationship. The calculated t value of 26.503 was greater than the t table value of 2.079, with a significance of 0.000 < 0.05, so Ha was accepted. The coefficient of determination (R Square) of 0.971 indicates that the learning environment contributes 97.1% to the formation of students' religious character, while the remainder is influenced by other factors outside the variables of this study.
