Brain Controlled-based Wheelchair Using Emotiv EPOC Sensor

Sep 2026 · Pakistan journal of engineering & technology · 0 citations

Abstract

This project focuses on the development of a brain-controlled wheelchair system aimed at enhancing the mobility and independence of individuals with physical disabilities. The system leverages the user to control wheelchair movement using EEG brain signals. These brain signals are translated into several move commands that further control the movement of the proposed wheelchair. The integration of Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology with embedded systems such as the ESP32 Main Controller and ultrasonic sensors to develop an innovative and accessible assistive technology solution. The system employs the signal processing and machine learning-based classification techniques to classify the brain signals into valid move commands. To ensure safety, ultrasonic sensors are integrated into the system, providing collision detection and preventing unwanted obstacles during the navigation. The wheelchair's movement is controlled by the Wheelchair Controller through motor drivers, offering smooth and responsive mobility and mitigating the potential risks associated with the autonomous movement. The system serves as a significant step forward in providing practical and affordable mobility solutions for people with disabilities, increasing their independence and control over their daily lives.
