Influence of Time Management Skills on the Academic Achievement of Business Education Students in Colleges of Education in Southwest Nigeria
Abstract
This study investigated the influence of time management skills on the academic achievement of Business Education students in Colleges of Education in Southwest Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population comprised Business Education students in Colleges of Education in Southwest Nigeria, while a sample of 638 students was selected using a concensus sampling procedure. Data were collected using the Time Management Skills Questionnaire (TMSQ) and an Academic Achievement Test (AAT). The instruments were validated by experts, while reliability was established using Cronbach's alpha. Mean, and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while Multiple Linear Regression were used to test the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that Business Education students had a moderate level of academic achievement (Mean = 62.84, SD = 15.72) and a good level of time management skills (Grand Mean = 2.73). Time management skills had a positive but non-significant relationship with academic achievement (r = .029, p > .05). Gender also had no significant moderating influence on the relationship between time management skills and academic achievement. The study concluded that time management skills did not significantly predict the academic achievement of Business Education students. It was recommended that institutions should promote effective time management while strengthening other factors that enhance students' academic achievement.
