Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the specifics of predicates of ethical assessment related to the semantic field of “laziness” in the media texts of the Komsomolskaya Pravda portal in years 2017–2025. The relevance of the study is due to the media change in connection with digitalization and the increase of emotive speech acts in media communication, the importance of the role of the emotive and ethical component in modern media as a tool for influencing the audience, and insufficient knowledge of the linguistic representation of ethical assessment in media texts. The results of the study show that modern media discourse preserves the deep properties of Russian linguistic culture: the ethical assessment of predicates reveals an implicit connection with pagan ideas about laziness and with the foundations of Orthodox religious ethics, where laziness is positioned as one of the deadly sins. The study of phraseological units with the “laziness” component and verb predicates, semantic connections of linguistic units belonging to the “laziness” microfield, allows us to conclude that the idea of the activity-based nature of the struggle against laziness in media texts, taking into account the antinomy of “labor / laziness” in the Russian linguistic consciousness. The ethical assessment of laziness as a negative property of a person, rather than his temporary condition, also turns out to be dictated by religious and ethical Christian ideas. Thus, despite the journalistic nature of the media texts under consideration, the analysis conducted using contextual, definitional, linguocultural and frequency methods indicates a deep connection between their axiological content and the Christian values inherent in the Russian people. The results of the work can have practical application in the framework of media communication, can be used in courses of emotiology, communication studies and journalism.
