The association between burnout and depression among healthcare workers at karsa husada hospital, Batu city, Indonesia: A cross-sectional study
Abstract
Burnout among healthcare workers has emerged as a critical occupational health issue that frequently co-occurs with depressive symptoms. This cross-sectional analytical study involving 80 healthcare workers at Karsa Husada Hospital, Batu City, Indonesia, examined the association between burnout and depression using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). A significant association was found between depression category and burnout level (Pearson χ 2 = 26.287; df = 3; p < 0.001). A positive linear trend was also observed (linear-by-linear association = 17.631; p < 0.001), indicating that higher depression severity corresponded to a higher likelihood of high burnout. These findings highlight the importance of integrated mental health screening and workplace interventions to mitigate burnout-related psychological morbidity among healthcare workers.
