Abstract

This paper presents a numerical modelling strategy of an innovative built‐up cold‐formed steel‐concrete composite floor system with a corrugated web, developed and calibrated against experimental data obtained from six‐point bending tests. The paper summarises key experimental findings related to the individual system components and the results from bending tests on composite girders. The experimental program provided insight into load‐bearing capacity, stiffness, and the development of deformations and failure modes. These results were used to validate a finite element model of the analysed composite system capable of reliably capturing the structural response. Comparisons between numerical simulations and experimental results of load‐bearing capacities show very good agreement. Furthermore, all failure modes observed in the experiments were accurately reproduced by the simulations. The developed model can be readily applied to nonlinear finite element parametric simulations of the analysed system. The presented methodology contributes to a deeper understanding of the behaviour of cold‐formed steel concrete composite systems with corrugated webs and offers a basis for further development of a standardised design procedure.
