An Overview of Entrepreneurial Resilience and Learning from Innovation Failure on Entrepreneurial Well-being within the Minangkabau Community: A Conceptual Paper
Abstract
This conceptual paper develops an integrative framework explaining how entrepreneurial resilience and learning from innovation failure shape entrepreneurial well-being within the Minangkabau cultural context. Using an integrative literature review, this study synthesizes theories of resilience, failure learning, and well-being and situates them in the matrilineal and migration-oriented merantau traditions of the Minangkabau society. The proposed model posits that resilience enables entrepreneurs to regulate emotions, adapt to uncertainty, and engage in constructive reflection after failure. Learning from innovation failure then mediates the pathway from resilience to enhanced entrepreneurial well-being, covering emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions. Minangkabau cultural values, such as communal obligations, social reputation, and adaptive wisdom– “Alam takambang jadi guru”– are proposed as contextual conditions that shape these relationships. The paper offers testable propositions and provides culturally grounded insights for future empirical studies.
