Comprehensive Review on Recent Advances in the Pharmacological and Nanotechnological Potential of Phyllanthus maderaspatensis
Abstract
The Phyllanthus maderaspatensis is a plant species with significant traditional medicinal applications and is a member of the Phyllanthaceae family. It is widely distributed and produces secondary metabolites that contribute to its physiological effects and medicinal properties. Compounds such as phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin position Phyllanthus maderaspatensis as a promising natural source for the development of novel therapeutic agents, particularly as anticancer agents for breast cancer. Nanoparticles have become increasingly prominent in biomedical research due to their environmentally friendly synthesis and notable therapeutic effects. Cancer remains the second leading cause of mortality worldwide, primarily due to uncontrolled cell proliferation. This review examines the phytochemical composition and the application of various metallic nanomaterials synthesized using plant extracts of P. maderaspatensis. Scientific evidence has been presented to support its diverse therapeutic properties and pharmacological actions. The phytochemical profile includes bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins, lignans and phenolic acids, all of which contribute to its pharmacological activities. These constituents are associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, anti-diarrheal, anticancer, antimicrobial and cytoprotective effects. Current research indicates that plant extracts of P. maderaspatensis, when utilized in nanoparticle synthesis, demonstrate multiple medicinal properties and potential therapeutic benefits.
