Mapping Technological Threat in Cryptocurrency Investment Through Bibliometric Analysis
Abstract
The rapid growth of cryptocurrency investment has introduced significant cybersecurity risks driven by technological threats within blockchain-based systems. Despite growing research on cybersecurity, studies that specifically examine technology-driven threats in cryptocurrency investment remain fragmented. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of this domain through a bibliometric analysis. Data were collected from the Scopus database using keywords related to technology, threat, and cryptocurrency, covering publications from 2015 to 2025. A total of 248 relevant studies were selected using the PRISMA framework. The dataset was analyzed using VOSviewer to examine co-occurrence, co-authorship, citation, and bibliographic coupling patterns. The results indicate that research in this field is primarily centered on cyber threats, cybersecurity, and cyberattacks, highlighting security as the dominant concern in cryptocurrency investment. The findings also reveal strong connections between technological threats and investment-related factors such as trust, transparency, and efficiency. In addition, the analysis shows that influential contributions are concentrated within computer science–oriented institutions, while collaboration across authors remains relatively limited. Furthermore, several areas, particularly blockchain network security and protocol-level vulnerabilities, remain underexplored. This study contributes by mapping the intellectual structure and research trends on technological threats in cryptocurrency investment and provides insights for future research to strengthen cybersecurity and risk management in digital financial systems.
