Extrativismo agrário na fronteira do Brasil: A terra na acumulação da riqueza e produção da desigualdade no Matopiba
Abstract
This article examines agrarian extractivism in Matopiba, highlighting land financialization as a central mechanism in the accumulation of wealth, the persistence of inequality, and food insecurity in Brazil’s “newest” agricultural frontier. The study demonstrates how land financialization, land concentration, and the predatory expansion of extractivism have simultaneously generated wealth and inequality, economic growth alongside hunger and food insecurity, transformations in land use, and environmental degradation. Drawing on documentary analysis, secondary data, and field information, the article reveals the dynamics of extractive capital, characterized by the overexploitation and exhaustion of natural and human resources, thereby deepening the historical asymmetries of the Brazilian countryside.
