Aug 2026 · New Zealand Journal of Botany · 0 citations · 34 references

Abstract

Cyathus Haller is a genus of fungi belonging to the family Nidulariaceae within the phylum Basidiomycota. Considering the need to preserve biomes, especially the Atlantic Forest, this study aims to propose a new species within Cyathus collected in the conservation unit, Floresta Nacional de Nísia Floresta, Brazil. It is characterized by having a pedicel 1.89 in height, mouth finely setose in a continuous  pattern, and basidiospores measuring 12.94–17.52 × 7.91–11.83 µm. Phylogenetic analysis of ITS data supports Cyathus nisiaensis as a new species within the minimum group clade. This study provides new data on the biodiversity of the genus Cyathus in the Atlantic Forest biome, contributing to efforts aimed at promoting its conservation.
