Quality Management in Islamic Boarding Schools in the Transformation of Madurese Islam in the Digital and Global Era

Abstract

The digital and global era requires pesantren to preserve local Islamic traditions while strengthening their adaptive capacity through quality educational management. This study explores pesantren quality management practices in the transformation of Madurese Islam and examines how quality-related factors influence adaptation to the digital-global era. This research employs a mixed-method approach with a sequential exploratory design. Qualitative data were obtained through interviews and observations, while quantitative data were collected through questionnaires administered to 100 respondents and analyzed using regression statistics. The findings indicate that LPI Maktab Nubdzatul Bayan Al-Majidiyah develops pesantren adaptability through kiai leadership, measurable educational systems, a culture of discipline, strengthened academic culture, multilingual development, and limited use of technology. Quantitative results show that the research instrument is valid, reliable, normally distributed, linear, and free from multicollinearity. Partial testing shows that pesantren quality management and the relationship between local Islamic traditions and digital modernization significantly affect pesantren adaptability. Meanwhile, organizational cultural adaptation does not have a significant effect. Simultaneously, the three variables do not show a significant effect, with the model contributing only 1.7%. Conclusion: Pesantren adaptability is influenced by quality management and the relationship between Islamic traditions and digital modernization, while organizational culture requires further strengthening to respond to global changes. This study offers theoretical and practical contributions to developing pesantren strategies for integrating Islamic traditions with digital modernization.
