Abstract

This study investigated high-entropy alloys from the Ti-Ta-Nb-Mg-Ag system produced by powder metallurgy. The alloying elements were selected with biomedical applications in mind. All elements are useful in the production of modern alloys for implants. Mechanical alloying (MA) and hot pressing were used to produce the alloys. The MA process was conducted on high-energy shaker mills and consolidation of the powders was carried out on a hot pressing device with induction heating. Graphite matrices were used, and the sintering temperature and time were 800°C and 360 seconds, respectively. Structural changes during the MA process and the phase composition of the alloy after consolidation were examined using XRD. The resulting structure was body-centered cubic (bcc). This comprehensive approach allowed us to determine the relationships between the alloy's production technology, its chemical composition, microstructure, and mechanical and corrosion properties relevant to biomaterials.
