Empowering the Future: The Role of Business Education in Promoting Gender Equality and Building a Fairer World
Abstract
Business education holds a vital opportunity to foster a more equitable world by instilling a deep understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment in future leaders. By integrating these concepts into curricula, we can raise awareness and equip students with essential tools for transformative change. For example, incorporating gender-focused case studies can highlight the economic benefits of empowering women, such as increased labor force participation that boosts GDP and reduces inequality (Lagarde, 2016). Additionally, business education must emphasize cultivating inclusive workplace cultures that guarantee fair compensation and leadership opportunities for women, addressing empowerment gaps identified in studies like PwC’s Global Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey (Sethi et al., 2022). By supporting policies that promote women’s career advancement and providing training in inclusive leadership, business schools can prepare graduates to create environments where women thrive (Lagarde, 2016). Furthermore, business schools can serve as incubators for gender-equitable practices, exemplifying diversity in leadership and endorsing initiatives that break down barriers to women’s economic participation (Sethi et al., 2022). These efforts can drive a broader societal shift toward gender equality, as informed leaders are more likely to implement policies that reduce disparities within their organizations (Sethi et al., 2022; Lagarde, 2016). In summary, by embedding gender equality and women’s empowerment into its core, business education can play an essential role in building a fairer world, preparing individuals to lead with equity and transforming the business landscape into a more inclusive arena.
