Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of gender inequality, identify feminist values in the novel "Women Waiting in the Corridor to the Sea" by Dian Purnomo, and explain its relevance to gender equality education in literature learning at a private vocational school in Jambi, Medan. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a feminist literary criticism approach. The research data source is the novel "Women Waiting in the Corridor to the Sea" by Dian Purnomo, while the data are in the form of quotations that show forms of gender inequality and feminist values. Data collection techniques are carried out through documentation, reading, note-taking, and supported by student questionnaires as supplementary data. Data analysis uses the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the novel represents five forms of gender inequality, namely marginalization, subordination, stereotypes, violence against women, and double burdens. In addition, feminist values are found in the form of courage to fight for women's rights, equality, independence, women's solidarity, concern for the environment, and resistance to the patriarchal system. These values are strongly relevant to literature learning within the Independent Curriculum, as they foster critical thinking skills, empathy, and social awareness, as well as strengthen students' character development. Therefore, this novel is suitable for use as an alternative literature teaching material based on gender equality education at the vocational high school level.
