Abstract

In the contemporary healthcare system, particularly in the management of electronic medical records, such as radiology data, is generally stored centrally in each healthcare facility, limiting patients’ access to their own medical records. Conversely, efforts to open access to data risk privacy violations, sensitive data leaks, data manipulation, and a decline in the integrity and trust in healthcare information systems. To address these critical gaps, this research aims to design and analyze EMRShare, a blockchain-based medical record-sharing system model that ensures the privacy, integrity, and access control of patient data. Specifically, this paper aims to design a blockchain system architecture for the secure management and exchange of medical records and to develop a rule-based data access control mechanism by leveraging smart contract-based patient and healthcare facility consent.
