Abstract

Abstract Introduction: The coronavirus (COVID-19), first identified in China in December 2019, developed into a major global pandemic in early 2020. In the years that followed, mortality declined as a result of numerous public health restrictions and vaccines. Contact restrictions were then scaled back in the endemic phase starting in 2023. Objectives: The aim of this paper is to document the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic based on statistical data. Methodology: Evaluation of secondary sources, statistical analysis, data processing, presentation of the data, linking the findings to conclusions drawn from the statistical results. Results: Provision of an overall picture of the impact of COVID-19 up to the present day. Conclusions: The pandemic has not yet faded from memory, and it has been evident that a few organisational measures are not sufficient to effectively control a pandemic. Infection control, vaccinations and the closure of institutions and businesses are also necessary, although these result in considerable additional costs for the state and its healthcare institutions with measurable financial and economic consequences [1].
