INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AS A DRIVER OF A COMPANY'S DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION: IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES AND ROI ASSESSMENT

Sep 2026 · Journal of Economic Transformations · 0 citations

Abstract

Information management is a key element of the digital transformation of companies. He performs a number of critical functions related to the development of digital solutions, data management, creation of a portfolio of digital projects, phased implementation, and assessment of the economic efficiency of this process. The study is based on an analysis of domestic and foreign scientific publications devoted to information management, digital transformation of organizations, and assessment of the effectiveness of IT projects. The information base consists of materials from peer‑reviewed publications that explore the organizational, technological, and financial aspects of companies’ digitalization. The methodological framework is based on the systematization and comparative analysis of scientific approaches, as well as methods of investment analysis of digital projects. Based on this, a step‑by‑step model for implementing digital transformation has been developed, and a comprehensive system for assessing its financial, operational, customer, and strategic results has been proposed. It has been established that the effectiveness of a company’s digital transformation is determined not so much by the scale of implementation of individual technologies as by the quality of information management, which ensures the alignment of digital initiatives with business processes, the data management system, and staff competencies. The results obtained indicate that using only the traditional ROI metric does not allow for a full assessment of the economic value of digital transformation, as it does not take into account the time value of cash flows, delayed effects, improved quality of management decisions, and the development of digital competencies. The necessity of a comprehensive assessment of digital projects, combining financial, operational, customer, organizational, and strategic indicators, has been substantiated. The proposed step‑by‑step model of digital transformation includes diagnosing the company’s current state, setting goals, designing, prioritizing initiatives, piloting, scaling, monitoring, and adjusting the results. A promising direction for further research is to test the proposed model using data from companies in various industries, including the agro‑industrial sector, industry, trade, and the service sector, taking into account the sector‑specific characteristics of costs and sources of digital impact. The practical significance of the results lies in the possibility of using them in the development of a company's digital strategy, the formation of a portfolio of IT projects, the preparation of investment justifications and the selection of a system of indicators for monitoring the effectiveness of digital transformation.
