Internet of Things and AI Blockchain Technology Applications and Security

Abstract

The rapid convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) is fundamentally reshaping the landscape of modern digital infrastructure. While each of these paradigms has individually driven massive technological leaps, their true transformative power lies in their synergy. IoT acts as the sensory network collecting real-world data, Blockchain provides an immutable layer of security and decentralized trust, and AI/ML serves as the cognitive brain processing this information to enable real-time, autonomous decision-making. Advanced Computing Technologies: IoT, Blockchain, AI, and Machine Learning offers a comprehensive exploration of these core pillars, bridging foundational theory with real-world system design, architectural frameworks, and deployment strategies. The text begins by establishing core computing paradigms, historical evolution, hardware architectures, distributed systems, and the socio-economic drivers of Industry 4.0. It then transitions into the mechanics of intelligent connected systems, detailing sensor networks, embedded devices, communication protocols from MQTT to 5G and 6G, and the evolution toward the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT). From there, the book examines cryptographic primitives, consensus mechanisms, smart contract development, and decentralized security models within Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies. Turning to the intelligence layer, it thoroughly explores classical machine learning, deep neural networks, transformer architectures, computer vision, Generative AI, Explainable AI, and privacy-preserving Federated Learning. Finally, the narrative synthesizes these pillars into unified architectures, showcasing cutting-edge developments such as digital twins, zero-knowledge machine learning (zkML), agentic AI, quantum paradigms, and sustainable computing.Tailored for undergraduate and graduate students, academic researchers, solution architects, and technology leaders, this book balances rigorous conceptual foundations with practical case studies spanning smart grids, autonomous transport, precision agriculture, and digital healthcare. By examining both individual components and integrated ecosystems, this work provides a complete roadmap for designing scalable, secure, and resilient cyber-physical systems. Whether utilized as a university textbook or an industry reference guide, this volume aims to empower readers to navigate, innovate, and lead in an increasingly interconnected and intelligent digital world.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.
