Using Blooket To Improve Reading Comprehension In Filipino Among Grade 5 Pupils
Abstract
This action research investigated the effectiveness of integrating Blooket, a game-based learning platform, as an intervention tool to enhance Filipino reading comprehension among Grade 5 pupils. Motivated by declining language proficiency and the need for engaging instructional methods, the study targeted 13 students identified as below-grade-level readers via the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) screening. Under the guidance of a licensed teacher, participants underwent a five-week intervention. Quantitative results indicated a statistically significant improvement in comprehension, with mean scores rising from 72.15% to 79.00%. Notably, students at the "Independent" level increased from 15.38% to 38.46%, while those at the "Frustration" level dropped from 30.77% to 0%. Qualitative findings confirmed that pupils experienced heightened enjoyment and cognitive activation, expressing a clear preference for digital game dynamics over traditional assessments. The study concludes that Blooket integration significantly improves reading comprehension skills and fosters a more positive attitude toward learning the Filipino language. These findings suggest that gamified interventions are viable alternatives to conventional teaching strategies in addressing literacy gaps.
