COLONIALIDADE E PATRIMÔNIO HISTÓRICO: A GLORIFICAÇÃO DA VIOLÊNCIA DE GÊNERO EM MONUMENTOS BRASILEIROS
Abstract
This article aims to discuss the relationship between coloniality and gender, expressed today in monuments that obliterate the violence perpetrated against Black and Indigenous women during the colonization of the Americas. Methodologically, we draw on Aníbal Quijano's concept of "coloniality of power" and Maria Lugones's propositions to analyze the narratives and silencing present in the commemoration of figures linked to colonialism in public spaces. Our findings highlight that several monuments portray as heroes figures who represent European rule over Brazilian territory and also the colonial structure that violated and demeaned everything associated with femininity.
