Abstract

Coaxial dielectric barrier discharge in argon excited by repetitive Gaussian pulse voltage is simulated using a 1-D fluid model. This study investigates the influence of voltage amplitude on discharge characteristics and defines a ratio (R) to characterize the correlation between current density and power consumption. Based on the discussion of these parameters, several significant conclusions are obtained in this work. When the voltage increases from 11.5 to 12 kV, the characteristic quantity changes rapidly. When the applied voltage amplitude is 12 kV, the distributions of Ne, Ni, and Er exhibit typical glow discharge characteristics. As the voltage rises from 12 kV to 13 kV, the growth rate of current density gradually decreases with increasing voltage amplitude, and the ratio R first increases and then decreases.
