Forest Classroom: Conversational AR Avatar for Help-Seeking
Abstract
Forest Classroom is a mobile, spatially situated conversational Augmented Reality (AR) system designed to support help-seeking during learning activities. Learners interact by voice with an embodied avatar presented within an immersive three-dimensional environment. Rather than acting as an authoritative tutor, the avatar uses encouragement, clarification and reflective prompts to help learners express uncertainty and seek assistance. The system also incorporates the Augmented Reality Enhanced Analytics (AREA) framework, which converts conversational, interaction and spatial signals into session-level summaries for educators. During the demonstration, attendees can interact with two configurable learning scenarios, observe the avatar’s real-time conversational responses and explore how interaction data are represented in the AREA dashboard. Audio may be temporarily retained for dashboard playback, but the system avoids automated diagnosis, ranking and long-term learner profiling. The demonstration illustrates how spatial interaction, conversational AI and human-centred analytics can be combined to support reflective learning experiences.
