Abstract

The service industry, especially banking, is where the attitudes in work culture significantly affect employee behaviours and the performance of the organization, which is vital for sustainable growth in the industry. The present study aims to explore the effect of the work culture of the organization on the performance of the employees by analysing the relationship between employee engagement and job satisfaction and its impact on the performance of banking employees in Jammu and Kashmir. The approach of the study was quantitative research, and the data were obtained from 300 banking employees by a structured questionnaire, which was prepared through the 5-point Likert scale. Reliability analysis, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression were used to analyse the data. Reliability results showed that all items had good internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha ranging from 0.867 to 0.913. The results showed that there were significant positive correlations between the organizational work culture, employee engagement (r = 0.721), employee satisfaction (r = 0.703), and employee performance. The regression model accounted for 61.0% of the variance in employee performance (R² = 0.610, p < 0.001), such that employee engagement (β = 0.380, p < 0.001), organizational work culture (β = 0.320, p < 0.001), and job satisfaction (β = 0.290, p = 0.001) were significant contributors to employee performance. The study emphasises the need to create enabling organizational cultures, communication, and employee-focused management to improve the effectiveness of the workforce and institutional performance.
