Physiological and Proteomic Responses to Chronic Stress and the Effects of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum (Maxim.) Kitam. Extract in Beagle Dogs
Abstract
Simple Summary This study investigated the physiological and molecular changes induced by chronic stress in beagle dogs and evaluated the potential anti-stress effects of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum (Maxim.) Kitam. extract (CZE). Chronic stress increased circulating cortisol and corticosterone levels and altered hematological, serum biochemical, and proteomic profiles. Serum proteomic analysis identified TIMP1, TREM2, RAB8A, KRT9, PPBP, THBS1, and HSPB1 as potential stress-associated biomarker candidates. Repeated oral administration of CZE tended to attenuate or stabilize several stress-related physiological changes. These findings suggest that CZE may have potential as a functional anti-stress material and that the identified serum proteins may contribute to the development of biomarkers for chronic stress.
