Abstract

The integration of alternative Construction Logistics Setups (CLS), such as kitting and consolidation centers, is recognized as a key lever for improving productivity, environmental performance, and safety on construction sites. However, current methods for evaluating their impacts are often complex, costly, intrusive, and heavily reliant on external expertise, limiting their operational application and widespread adoption. To address this gap, a non-intrusive data collection framework enabling construction site teams to autonomously assess the benefits (economic, environmental, and health/safety) of such logistics solutions will be developed, anchored in existing practices such as Last Planner System (LPS) meetings. A first step in developing this framework is to analyse operational evaluation criteria and their measurement indicators and methods in terms of (i) relevancy, (ii) data availability, and (iii) measurability. This paper proposes a list of criteria and their indicators sourced from existing publications evaluating CLS, and proposes a preliminary non-intrusive data collection framework to evaluate CLS without hindering site operations. The results of this first step emphasize simple data collection methods and the use of specific performance indicators that allow for continuous project improvement besides post-hoc analyses. This preliminary framework will, in a second stage (Q1-2026) be tested in an experimental setting in order to assess its logistic evaluation performance. The final goal will be to move beyond experimental setups to daily construction practices, hence offering a tool for continuous improvement and supporting the broader adoption of innovative logistics solutions in the construction industry.
