Oct 2026 · Revista contemporânea · 0 citations · 4 references

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the role of imaging exams in supporting diagnosis and guiding clinical and forensic procedures in contemporary dentistry. The methodology used was an integrative literature review, with searches conducted in Scielo, Lilacs, PubMed, and BVS databases, covering publications from 2022 to 2026. Twelve scientific articles were selected, directly addressing the use of imaging techniques such as conventional radiography, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), digital scanning, and emerging methods like virtopsy. The main results show that the appropriate use of these exams provides more accurate diagnoses, greater treatment predictability, and reduced risks in clinical and surgical procedures. Additionally, they demonstrate the relevance of imaging in forensic dentistry, significantly contributing to human identification. The integration of imaging technologies with planning software, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence enhances the quality of dental care. It is concluded that imaging exams have evolved from complementary tools to fundamental pillars of evidence-based dentistry, requiring technical expertise, continuous learning, and ethical responsibility from professionals in the face of technological advances.
