Tent-mapping-based smart jamming method for airborne radar
Abstract
This paper explores a smart jamming method for airborne radars. The research tackles a common problem: while traditional techniques like interrupted-sampling direct jamming (ISDJ) and repeater jamming (ISRJ) are easy to implement, their time-frequency patterns are far too predictable. Because they are so regular, modern radars can easily identify and block them. To add more randomness to the signal structure without losing the benefits of interrupted-sampling, we propose a new approach. We developed a smart jamming scheme that uses a Tent map to create non-uniform, repeating patterns that are much harder for radars to filter out. This approach uses a Tent chaotic sequence to adjust the width of each retransmitted signal fragment. To test whether our method really works, we ran simulations and focused on four key metrics: SBR suppression, number of effective false targets, coverage width, and uniformity of false targets. The results indicate that, while maintaining good suppression performance, Tent-ISNPRSJ can significantly improve the amplitude uniformity, density, and coverage range of the falsetarget group, and its overall jamming performance is superior to that of the compared schemes.
