Jung revisited: de werkcolleges over dromen
Abstract
Based on the seminars on dream analysis and children’s dreams, the specific contribution of C.G. Jung to psychoanalytic dream theory is examined. Jung’s theory was partly shaped by his own dreams. The study of these seminars indicates which of his ideas remain relevant and can be integrated into contemporary psychoanalytic practice. The conclusion highlights the essential differences from Freudian dream interpretation: the analysis of dream sequences, the meaningfulness of the manifest dream, an alternative technique (textualising, contextualising, circumambulatio, amplifying), the compensatory function of dreams and a finalistic perspective.
