Exploring New Physics beyond the Standard Model at Collider Experiments
Abstract
: The Standard Model is the foundation of the modern Particle Physics, yet it is far from a perfect model. Defects in the Standard Model indicate the necessity of new Physics. This review includes two of the Beyond Standard Model (BSM) concepts, supersymmetry (SUSY) and dark matter. Discussion related to SUSY is in the context of R-parity conserving Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (RPC MSSM) which predicts a stable lightest super-partner. In addition, two dark matter candidates, Dirac fermion in the 2HD M+α and neutralino in the RPC MSSM are selected. This review provides an overview of three collider searches conducted by CMS and ATLAS experiments in the Large Hadron Collider, aimed to find evidence for production of SUSY and dark matter particles. The experimental signatures they rely on, and methods used to reconstruct and select events are discussed. As their results show no deviation from the SM expectation, new future colliders are proposed and under construction. The next generation of colliders, designed as discovery machines, will decisively probe these theoretically motivated realms and could ultimately unveil the new laws governing our cosmos.
