Abstract

The industry remains a driver of economic growth for the Russian economy. This sector attracts significant volumes of investment. However, a structural imbalance is observed in the manufacturing sector: the majority of investments are directed toward the development of the military-industrial complex, while other industries face a shortage of investment resources. Additionally, the manufacturing sector demonstrates relatively low innovation activity, and the profitability of environmentally and socially responsible investments, as analysis shows, is quite low. At the same time, the ESG concept is shaping a new economy based on responsibility and innovation, making it an integral part of industrial enterprises’ development strategies in the 21st century. The article examines key trends in ESG investing among manufacturing enterprises, calculates investment growth and innovation activity indices, and explores the results of correlation-regression analysis. These findings lead to the conclusion that the current application of the ESG concept in managing the innovation-investment processes of industrial enterprises is ineffective. The article highlights the prospects for the positive impact of ESG investments on the innovation activity of industrial enterprises and outlines institutional and regulatory measures needed to enhance the profitability of ESG investments in the innovative activities of industrial enterprises.
