Abstract

This article analyzes the historical, social, religious, and patrimonial development of the Penitential Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno del Amor and Nuestra Senora de la Esperanza in Cadiz from its foundation in 1951 to the present day. Using a qualitative methodology based on the analysis of primary sources -especially the brotherhood's internal records- and specialized scholarship, the study examines the confraternity's evolution in relation to the broader transformations of Gaditan society since the postwar period. Particular attention is paid to the context of Francoist National Catholicism, the democratic transition, and contemporary changes in popular religiosity. The article also explores the brotherhood's social, cultural, and patrimonial dimensions, both artistic and musical, interpreting it as both a reflection of and an active agent in the transformation of confraternal religiosity in Cadiz.
