ANALYSIS OF THE APPLICATION CHARACTERISTICS OF THE O2V100 VISION SENSOR IN AUTOMATION SYSTEMS
Abstract
The article is dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of the capabilities of the modern O2V100 industrial computer vision sensor from IFM Electronic. Purpose. The study aims to evaluate the metrological capabilities and identify the optical-geometric limitations of the ifm O2V100 smart vision sensor during automated quality control and sorting of parts. Methods. 2D image processing based on Blob-analysis algorithms within the ifm Vision Assistant environment was applied. Experimental tests were conducted using a matte black background at a fixed working distance L = 330 mm and an integration exposure time of 7.80 ms. Results. The calibration spatial scale of the system was established as K = 0.1569 mm/px. Experimental results showed high measurement repeatability for static object area within ±0.5-0.7% and angular orientation within ±0.3-0.4°. A strong dependence of binarization quality on object color under red LED illumination (625 nm) was identified: average grey-scale values varied from 225 for white samples down to 64 for light-brown samples, leading to thresholding anomalies and false defect alerts on porous surfaces. Furthermore, arbitrary angular rotation of parts caused orthogonal projection distortion, leading to false acceptance of defective items when using one-dimensional width metrics. Practical significance. Recommendations were formulated for transitioning from linear dimensions to scale- and rotation-invariant shape descriptors (compactness) and multi-parameter detection logic for industrial automation lines.
