ESG CRITERIA IN BRAZILIAN COFFEE CULTIVATION: SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCES FROM A LITERATURE REVIEW
Abstract
Recent transformations in the institutional environment have intensified the demand for more sustainable practices in agribusiness, highlighting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria as a key reference for organizational management. In this context, the present study aims to analyze how ESG criteria have been applied in agribusiness, with a particular focus on coffee production, through a literature review on the subject, emphasizing the Cerrado Mineiro region. Methodologically, this is a theoretical study with a qualitative approach, developed through a literature review and document analysis, considering studies published between 2020 and 2026. The results demonstrate that ESG adoption occurs in diverse ways, with greater emphasis on the environmental pillar, driven by certifications and market requirements, while the social and governance pillars display varying levels of maturity. Furthermore, factors such as costs, access to information, and production organization influence the implementation of these practices. As contributions, the study expands the theoretical understanding of ESG in agribusiness and provides practical insights for managers and producers seeking to adopt more sustainable practices.
