Posterior lamellar keratoplasty in combined surgical treatment of anterior segment pathology
Abstract
Isolated keratoplasty of various types (penetrating, lamellar) currently presents no technical difficulties, but the search for optimal surgical approaches for comorbid conditions remains a pressing issue in ophthalmic surgery. Objective. To study clinical cases of posterior lamellar keratoplasty in combined surgical treatment of anterior segment pathology. Material and Methods. Three patients who underwent surgery for corneal pathology and various anterior segment diseases were retrospectively observed. In one case, posterior lamellar keratoplasty was combined with explantation and implantation of an artificial lens, while in the other two, posterior lamellar keratoplasty was combined with cataract phacoemulsification. Result. Complete and central adhesion of the donor material was achieved in all cases. The patients' visual acuity was 0.09sph(–)2.0=0.2, and counting fingers at the face was 0.02 n.c. Conclusion. One-stage reconstructive surgery on the anterior segment of the eyeball followed by posterior lamellar keratoplasty may be the most effective method for the surgical treatment of combined pathology.
