A new species of Helonoton (Zopheridae: Colydiinae: Synchitini) from a relictual beech forest in Hidalgo, Mexico
Abstract
Helonoton filemoni sp. nov. is described from a relictual Mexican beech forest (Fagus grandifolia subsp. mexicana (Martínez) A.E.Murray) in Hidalgo, Mexico. The new species is illustrated and compared to other species in the genus and diagnostic characters are provided to distinguish it from the most similar species, H. mexicanum Lord & Ivie, H. bituberculatum Lord & Ivie, and H. ashei Lord & Ivie. A terminology to designate the main nodules, ridges, and landmarks of pronotum and elytra is proposed. Additionally, a modification to the identification key by Lord & Ivie (2016) is presented.
