Asymptotics of the p-Capacity in the Critical Regime
Abstract
<jats:p> We are interested in the asymptotics of the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">p</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> -capacity between the origin and the set <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">nB</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>n</mml:mi> <mml:mi>B</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> , where <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">B</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>B</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> is the boundary of the unit ball of the lattice <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">\mathbb Z^d</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:msup> <mml:mi mathvariant="double-struck">Z</mml:mi> <mml:mi>d</mml:mi> </mml:msup> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> . This variational problem has arisen in particular in the study of large deviations for first passage percolation. For <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">p<d</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> <mml:mo><</mml:mo> <mml:mi>d</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> , the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">p</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> -capacity converges to some positive constant, while for <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">p>d</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> <mml:mo>></mml:mo> <mml:mi>d</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> the capacity vanishes polynomially fast. The present paper deals with the case <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">p=d</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mi>d</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> , for which we prove that the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">p</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> -capacity vanishes as <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">c_d (\log n)^{-d+1}</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:msub> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mi>d</mml:mi> </mml:msub> <mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>log</mml:mi> <mml:mo></mml:mo> <mml:mi>n</mml:mi> <mml:msup> <mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>−</mml:mo> <mml:mi>d</mml:mi> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:msup> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> with an explicit constant <jats:inline-formula> <jats:alternatives> <jats:tex-math notation="LaTeX">c_d</jats:tex-math> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:msub> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mi>d</mml:mi> </mml:msub> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> </jats:alternatives> </jats:inline-formula> .
