Five-phase induction motor speed control using super-twisting sliding mode control
Abstract
This paper proposes a robust speed control method for a five-phase induction motor using rotor flux-oriented control combined with a super-twisting sliding mode controller. The aim is to improve speed regulation, disturbance rejection, and reduce chattering compared with proportional integral and classical sliding mode controllers. In the proposed scheme, the -axis current controls rotor flux, while the -axis current reference is generated by the super twisting sliding mode control for torque control. MATLAB results under constant speed, speed variation, and load disturbance confirm accurate tracking, low overshoot, fast settling, negligible steady-state error, and strong robustness, making the method suitable for high-performance motor drive applications.
