FBMC/QAM-Based Downlink Multi-User MISO Systems: Transceiver Design and Analysis
Abstract
This paper investigates filter bank multicarrier with quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC/QAM) as a waveform candidate for multi-user multiple-input single-output communication. A transceiver design for the downlink transmission is developed, following which the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio is derived to quantify spectral efficiency (SE), accounting for filter-induced intrinsic interference, and multi-user interference. The SE performance of the proposed system is evaluated by separately filtering even and odd subcarrier symbols with nearly-orthogonal filters, which are constructed based on the PHYDYAS filter. Simulation findings demonstrate that the proposed FBMC/QAM system outperforms its orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing counterpart in terms of bit error rate and SE. Also, the impact of carrier frequency offset on the FBMC/QAM waveform is evaluated, highlighting its superior robustness to carrier asynchrony.
