UMMI urban morphology and microclimate indicators: 67 cities (v0)

Abstract

Grid-cell indicators of urban morphology and microclimate for 67 cities (486,406 cells), computed from OpenStreetMap buildings and streets and from Sentinel-2 imagery. The record also includes a k-means typology of the cells (19 types) and an STL building model of one representative cell for each type, for use as CFD geometry. Each cell carries building count, coverage ratio, volumetric density, height, length, width, footprint area, perimeter, volume, wall area, shape complexity, compactness, shape coefficient, frontal area, orientation index, frontal area density and roughness length for four wind directions, an OSM height-quality grade, sky view factor, street canyon aspect ratio, and the Sentinel-2 NDVI, albedo, water index and impervious surface fraction. This is version 0, the dataset as produced by the original UMMI scripts (October 2025 to March 2026). Known limitations: measurements were made in Web Mercator, so lengths and areas are stretched by 1/cos(latitude) and 1/cos²(latitude); building width equals length; the sky view factor is biased high; buildings crossing cell edges are excluded; and features crossing extraction borders are duplicated. These issues are corrected in the current pipeline, and a recomputed dataset will be published as a new version of this record. README.md documents every field, the limitations, the clustering method and the STL models. Contains information from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL) and modified Copernicus Sentinel data (2024–2025).

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.
