Abstract

Two yellow-pigmented bacterial strains, designated 3-210T and 3-218T, were isolated from the rhizosphere soil of Erigeron canadensis collected from Lhalu Wetland, which is located in the northwest corner of Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. The two strains were characterized as Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped bacteria and both exhibited positive reactions for oxidase and catalase. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the strains were identified as members of the genus Flavobacterium. Digital DNA-DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity analyses among strains 3-210T, 3-218T and their references in the genus Flavobacterium confirmed that they represent two novel species in the genus Flavobacterium. The strains contained MK-6 as the sole respiratory quinone. Common major fatty acids were iso-C15:0, C16:0, iso-C15:0 3-OH, iso-C17:0 3-OH, C15:1 ω5c and Summed features 3 (C16:1 ω7c/C16:1 ω6c). The polar lipid profiles of strains 3-210T and 3-218T were nearly identical, consisting of phosphatidylethanolamine, amino lipid, glycolipid and two unidentified lipids. Based on the result of the polyphasic characterization, the following names are proposed: Flavobacterium xizangense sp. nov., with strain 3-210T as the type strain (= ACCC 63738T = CGMCC 30572T=KCTC 102490T) and Flavobacterium erigeronis sp. nov., with strain 3-218T as the type strain (= ACCC 63282T = CGMCC 31149T=KCTC 102399T).
