Abstract

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, was first identified in December 2019 and subsequently spread globally. In Mexico, the first confirmed case was registered in February 2020. The presence of sociodemographic and clinical factors can influence the presentation and evolution of the disease. Objective: To identify the epidemiological profile of patients with COVID-19 in San Francisco de Campeche, Campeche. Materials and methods: An observational, cross-sectional, retrospective, and descriptive study was conducted. Patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 were included. A structured questionnaire was administered, and sociodemographic, clinical, and epidemiological variables were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, measures of central tendency, and dispersion. Results: 273 patients were included; 70% were male. The fourth decade of life was the most frequent age group, and overweight was the predominant body mass index category. The most frequent occupation was employed. The average time between symptom onset and medical attention was 4.41 ± 2.8 days. Dyslipidemia was the most frequent comorbidity (31.9%). 78.7% reported contact with a coworker. 81.28% were discharged due to improvement, and 17.65% died. Conclusion: The profile of the patients studied was characterized primarily by men in their forties, with overweight and metabolic comorbidities. Workplace contact was the most frequent epidemiological factor.
